Langebaan – the Jewel of the West Coast

Langebaan Map

Drive just over an hour up the west coast from Cape Town to the “Jewel of the West Coast”.

The scenic seaside town of Langebaan is idyllically situated alongside a 15 km stretch of calm, protected lagoon. It is renowned for its variety of birdlife. Here tidal mudflats, sandflats, saltmarsh and islands support a busy community of Cape cormorant, greater flamingo, pied avocet, grey plover, gulls, terns, sandpipers and red knots, African penguin, African black oystercatcher, cormorants, and black harrier.

Apart from its ornithological significance, Langebaan’s long, sun-filled days, white beaches and mild climate, make this area ideal for water activities like kitesurfing, sailing, water skiing, fishing and kayaking.

Langebaan is also on the West Coast Way Foodie Route with plenty to offer on the culinary scale. An unmissable culinary attraction is the 10-course meal at the rustic, Die Strandloper Boma where you can bury your feet in the sand whilst savoring a mouthwatering array of authentic West Coast seafood in a spectacularly unique setting. Book ahead for this popular experience!

Langebaan borders onto the rugged wilderness of the West Coast National Park where diverse terrestrial and marine habitats offer activities such as game viewing, cycling, bird watching, game sighting, biking and whale spotting.

Alternatively, a visit to the informative fossil dig tour at the West Coast Fossil Park will leave you wondering at the fossilized remains of Africa’s only bear.

Langebaan’s holiday accommodation caters for all, with family resorts and self-catering holiday flats on the beachfront as well as romantic luxury accommodation options for discerning travelers.
