Nestled between the Indian Ocean and the towering mountains of the Southern Cape, lies an ecological gem: Mosaic Lagoon Lodge.

Situated on the scenic Whale Coast only a 2-hour drive from Cape Town, Mosaic is the perfect first stop on a self-drive adventure. Explorer Safari Travel Planner Shanaaz recently enjoyed a night’s stay; here’s her story.

Mosaic Lagoon Lodge, overlooking the Hermanus Lagoon

On our arrival we were met by Jo-Anne, the manager of Mosaic Lagoon Lodge, and the lovely friendly staff.  The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and we were offered a refreshing welcome drink. We had a quick orientation around the lodge, and check in.

Mosaic Lagoon Lodge is very secluded and is set among ancient Milkwood trees on the edge of the Hermanus lagoon.

Spectacular mountain and lagoon views

The lodge is beautiful with only 5 luxury suites, which makes it unique and exclusive – ideal for a honeymoon or special occasion celebrating with loved ones. I really loved being immersed in the splendid wilderness, filled with unique birds and vegetation.

After settling in, we then took a short walk to our suite. A charming wooden walkway connects the suites and the central dining area. The front of each luxury suite is encased by glass doors, overlooking the Milkwood forest and lagoon, ensuring you feel part of nature. Inside, the king-size bed is generous and very comfortable, and I really loved the attention to detail! There were locally designed items, and special accents from local designer Skinny Laminx.

Extra additions included soft bathrobes and complimentary slippers during your stay, a mini bar filled with refreshing drinks, as well as tea and coffee-making facilities. Each suite has its own deluxe rain shower, bathtub and is also stocked with all the Kalahari products. For those warmer summer days, there is an outside shower, and for winter, a fireplace in your suite.

The lovely bathroom has a deluxe free-standing tub

The Spa at Mosaic was also a favourite of mine, but since I was only there for a night, I decided to opt for the outdoor activities instead. However, if you have a few days here, I highly recommend one of the indulgent Kalahari treatments.

Mosaic Lagoon Lodge
Take time out to relax and unwind

The Cape Whale Coast is an incredible place to explore, discover and experience.  The air is clean, the sea is close and it’s perfect for a romantic beach vacation. I would suggest enjoying two or three nights in this paradise if you are wanting to be pampered and really relax and unwind. Although romantic, Mosaic Lagoon Lodge is also a place for family. There are plenty of fun-filled activities on offer – quad biking or mountain biking anyone?

Family memories

Each meal at Mosaic is a special occasion. The chef created each plate with fresh ingredients, and any request was no bother (I am vegan). I really loved every course that was served. In the warm afternoon, we took advantage of a quick dip in the heated splash pool, and spent the rest of the day at leisure.

Dinner was served in the dining room with the fireplace ablaze. From beetroot carpaccio starters to sweet crisp potatoes and lush ice-cream with berries, dinner was a delight! And service was excellent throughout.

A fire welcomed us in the evening

Our suite was turned down, our bed was fluffed up, our mosquito net dropped, lights on dim and our fire was lit for us, as the temperature cooled outside.  After a night well rested, breakfast came with a spectacular view of the lagoon. After enjoying hot coffee and fresh fruits as well as a sumptuous hot breakfast, we opted for the quad bike activity.

My fear for bikes is so real, but our  guide Vitalis was super, beyond friendly and made me feel comfortable in every way.

Mosaic is such a special place, with so much you can do, and the optional activities such as (seasonal) whale watching, kayaking in the lagoon, beach and boat cruises, are truly fantastic. This is a lodge for all seasons, and with all that is on offer, the point at Mosaic Lagoon Lodge is to slow down, do less and savour more.
