Explorer Safari travel planner Shanaaz recently visited The Cape Milner Hotel, which is situated in Cape Town’s Tamboerskloof district, and which enjoys views of iconic Table Mountain.
Here’s her feedback on a night away in the city.
The promise of a change of scenery and routine, even for a short while, can do wonders to restore and rejuvenate one’s body, mind, and soul. It is human nature to want to have something exciting to look forward to, and a sojourn in the city was just what we needed.
Upon entering the Cape Milner, which enjoys stylish art-deco design, we were welcomed to a sophisticated escape that’s a perfect mix between contemporary and old-world charm.
Our spacious and beautifully furnished Luxury Room had its own veranda, with spectacular views of Table Mountain. We started off our Saturday afternoon just re-charging and taking a relaxed moment in our room. No matter where I stay, details always stand out for me – like the fruit bowl and nuts as an arrival gift we received, the Nespresso machine with a variety of pod coffees, and the deep bathtub, perfect for a leisurely soak with the organic Africology amenities that leave you feeling fragrant and relaxed.
The Glass Lounge – the new cocktail and tapas menu at the Cape Milner – is the place to see and be seen! We enjoyed this funky yet elegant venue for dinner, and it serves as the perfect spot for a catch up with friends, special occasions, or a romantic date night in the city. Outdoor dining under the garden pergola is another lovely option (weather permitting), or you can enjoy your drinks, snacks or meals served directly to your pool lounger.
The sound of a Sunday morning in a plush hotel suite was completely different from home, especially after a great night’s rest, which felt like I slept on a cloud! I enjoyed a relaxing coffee in bed, followed by an utterly delicious breakfast at the 2 On Milner restaurant. Breakfast was a relaxed affair, with a frothy cappuccino followed by a freshly cut fruit plate. Hot breakfast was a pure delight as we were surprised with vegan sausages after the Chef had noticed that our choices were all vegetarian.
We enjoyed our stay with attentive staff who ensured we had a relaxing and comfortable time. Overall, our experience was lovely and just what we needed for a short but sweet break from our responsibilities and routine.
If you’re visiting Cape Town or combining the city with a larger itinerary that takes in the Garden Route, the Kruger Park or further afield to Botswana or Victoria Falls, we can highly recommend The Cape Milner for a luxurious boutique stay in South Africa’s favorite city.
