When in Cape Town, don’t miss the chance to spend a few hours exploring the Zeitz MOCAA Museum.
Walking from one exhibition to the next and experiencing the exciting art, sculpture and moving images, you will feel like you have been transported into another time zone.
The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), housed in the historic Grain Silo Complex at the V&A Waterfront, is the largest museum dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its Diaspora on the Africa Continent.
A visual feast
The building is, in a word, mind-blowing. The original grain silos were redesigned into a functional space to pay tribute to the original industrial design but with the vision to become a major, not-for-profit cultural institution.
As for the art… Over one hundred galleries, spread over nine floors, are dedicated to an extensive, cutting-edge permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.
A real feast
Make time for lunch. The museum’s eatery space on the sixth level enjoys sweeping views of Table Mountain and also looks out onto the rooftop sculpture garden.
Inspired by local ingredients and in the spirit of real South African inclusivity, the food is SASSI friendly, Halaal friendly, re-imagined, healthy and, most importantly, delicious.
We highly recommend visiting this museum when coming to Cape Town. You don’t necessarily have to love the art or want to showcase it in your home, but you will leave with a renewed sense of creative energy.
It’s an adventure; every nook and cranny is a surprise, and we often found ourselves saying “wow” out loud! It is not to be missed.
