It is not often that I am left speechless, but White Pearl in southern Mozambique did almost exactly this. An easy two-hour drive from Maputo, White Pearl is a luxurious, yet relaxed resort set on a spectacular stretch of sandy beach with beautiful Indian Ocean views.
On arrival, I received the warmest welcome from Amos, and his team, and it already felt like paradise. The welcome drink on arrival was a pine-nut/coconut flavor drink that sure got my tastebuds wanting more; so refreshing and welcoming in the heat!
My private chalet had a lovely wrap-around deck, epitomising casual sophistication and furnished with soft white shades. The glass sliding doors lead onto a very lavish bedroom and beautiful sun deck, with loungers beside the refreshing plunge pool, and a divine outside shower…
I enjoyed a lovely neck and back massage on the deck and feeling the ocean breeze while all stretched out on the luxurious day bed, and surrounded by the outdoors was just incredible.
At White Pearl, they say “Explore the wonders of the Indian Ocean”, and I did exactly that. A snorkelling trip to a nearby reef was just amazing; I loved the underwater displays of colourful corals and lively fish as I floated through the water. I even saw dolphins nearby, and a southern right whale with her calf in the distance.
The White Pearl team was always available, kind and accommodating. I never wanted to leave, and yes it was the complete highlight of my recent trip to Mozambique. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach was just the cherry on the top!
If you’re planning a trip to Africa in 2023, then consider adding Mozambique to your itinerary – it’s the perfect mix of African culture and beach paradise.
