1 night in Arusha
Your Tanzania safari kicks off in the country’s largest coffee plantation. A game drive in Mt Meru National Park, accompanied by a delicious picnic lunch, makes a wonderful outing. Take a stroll through the plantation on a “Bean to Cup” Coffee Estate Tour, or ask your hosts about excursions to the historical museum, Mt Meru and the foot of Kilimanjaro. You can also choose to spend the afternoon at Cultural Heritage, which specialises in African crafts, carvings, gemstones and clothing.

The aptly named Arusha Coffee Lodge lies hidden among the sprawling grounds of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, below the rugged peaks of Mt Meru. Unwind in your plantation suite which boasts a romantic four-poster bed draped in Egyptian cotton, a split-level sitting area, ensuite bathroom, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, an open fireplace, personal bar and private veranda, which overlooks rows and rows of berry-laden coffee bushes.

Katavi Game Reserve in the far west of Tanzania is somewhere that even today, few people have been lucky enough to visit. Perhaps because of this, it feels untouched, almost like travelling back in time. Katavi is home to a plethora of wildlife, from vast herds of buffalo and elephant to an assortment of stealthy predators. Adventures include twice-daily game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, guided bush walks and fly camping which will take you to the untamed heart of the Katavi wilderness.
