1 night in Nairobi
Your sensational journey begins in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. Your home for the night is Giraffe Manor, the only place in the world where you can feed and photograph giraffe over your breakfast table, view them from your front door and watch them from your bedroom window!
If you’re keen on exploring your surroundings, venture out to the nearby museums, galleries, markets and shopping centres in bustling Nairobi. Visit the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Centre or Karen Blixen Museum. Enjoy guided walks through the surrounding forests and learn about traditional uses of the varied flora, view some of the 180 bird species and perhaps meet a warthog or bushbuck.
Expect a menu featuring traditional, yet modern meals such as Mount Kenya Smoked Trout pate, fillet of beef or watamu red snapper.
WHERE YOU'LL STAY
Surrounded by vast acres of indigenous forest, the elegant Giraffe Manor is famous for its resident herd of giraffe that casually wander around the hotel grounds. Beautifully furnished rooms include comfortable four-poster beds and well-appointed bathrooms.
2 nights in Laikipia
The next leg of your African journey takes you to the Laikipia region, which is considered the gateway to Kenya’s wild and scarcely populated northern frontier country. Here, you can expect an experience filled with the vibrant culture, wildlife and serenity of a landscape found at the foothills of Mount Kenya.
From your accommodation at Segera Retreat, you’re invited to connect with African nature in an authentic way on game drives, walks, camel rides, sleep-outs, visits to cultural villages and helicopter flights. You also have the opportunity to spend time with the resident staff of the Zeitz Foundation and learn more about the complexities (and successes) of conservation and community in this unique corner of Kenya.
At Segera Retreat, meals are served al fresco in a number of private dining locations or in the various luxury reception rooms. The superb cuisine comprises Segera’s own free-range beef and organic vegetables.
WHERE YOU'LL STAY
Running entirely on solar energy, Segera’s luxury villas gaze over the Laikipia Plateau with views of Mount Kenya. The villas have en-suite bathrooms and a private sun deck in the garden, with comfortable sun loungers for soaking up the African sun and a swing bed for whiling the hours away. A Jacuzzi bath, sunk into the deck outside the bedroom, adds an indulgent touch.
3 nights in Masai Mara Game Reserve
Welcome to the Masai Mara, land of the legendary red-robed Maasai warriors and home to Africa’s illustrious Big 5. Considered by many to be Kenya’s best and most scenic game park, you have access to a wealth of activities: interpretive game drives, birdwatching, hot air ballooning, walking safaris, and cultural visits to neighbouring Maasai villages.
Then there’s the opportunity to enjoy a picnic on the crest of the Out of Africa kopje, the very same site where the romantic tale was filmed, and which is featured on the movie’s poster. Climb the hill to discover an old-world picnic scene: checked blanket, comfy cushions, safari canvas chairs, wicker picnic basket, sparkling wine on ice… and that view.
Choose to dine on the deck of your tented suite, at the lodge, beside the pool, or in the shade of a lone tree surrounded by majestic scenery. Afternoon tea is served at the lodge and features the classics: cucumner sandwiches and scones. Toast the sunset with an East African mojito, known as a dawa, in the Maasai boma.
WHERE YOU'LL STAY
Located high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley overlooking Kenya’s Maasai Mara, Angama Mara offers elegant, classical tented suites with breathtaking views, private decks, luxury amenities and a butler’s lobby for the discreet delivery of early morning tea and coffee.
3 nights in Serengeti National Park
Conjuring images of wildebeest stampeding across vast savannah, rain forests teeming with monkeys and birdlife, and great plains brimming with legions of game, Tanzania certainly lives up to its reputation.
Your luxury accommodation within the Grumeti Game Reserve places you idyllically within reach of Tanzania’s showstopping wildlife attraction, the Serengeti National Park, which plays an important role in the protection of the Great Migration as it supports indigenous biodiversity. You can look forward to classic safari experiences, from dining under the stars and exploring the magnificent Serengeti plains to hopping on a canoe trip or fishing expedition and enjoying exceptional game viewing all-year-round.
Interactive dining and multiple airy enclaves add personality to every culinary moment, while the café-style bar at the heart of the lodge beside the pool area and firepit makes for magical evenings under starlit skies.
