Game Watching in the Masai Mara
Established in 1961 as a wildlife sanctuary, the Masai Mara encompasses more than 370,000 acres, with no fences between the park and its neighbor, the Serengeti in Tanzania, making it one of the best places in Africa to see wildlife. The flat grasslands provide plentiful grazing, while the area’s two main rivers, the Talek and the Mara, are home to hippos and crocodiles, as well as abundant birdlife. Besides spectacular game viewing, the Mara is particularly famous for its big cats – lion, leopard and cheetah.

Best Time for a Masai Mara Safari
As one of the most popular safari destinations in Africa, thanks to its great game viewing and mild climate, you can visit the Masai Mara any time of the year. However, the busiest season falls between July and November, when the Great Migration takes place.
Traveling to Kenya during the Green Season (November to April) can also be particularly rewarding as it’s the birthing season and the young calves ensure that a healthy population of predators is always nearby.
During summer in Kenya (December to March), average temperatures range between 68°F and 93°F, while winter (June to August) is mild, with temperatures ranging from 64°F to 84°F.
